Käferfeldeck

Käferfeldeck is a mountain peak in the federal state of Salzburg, near the district of Zell am See. It stands in the central part of Austria, about 300 kilometres west of Vienna. The summit reaches 2,939 metres above sea level. The land around it is mostly very rugged and steep. The nearest larger settlement is Neukirchen am Großvenediger, eleven kilometres to the north. The area is sparsely populated, with only 34 people living in each square kilometre. Most of the terrain consists of open grassland that stretches across the high ground. There are no forests or built-up zones close to the peak. The slopes are rocky in places, making the climb more challenging. Visitors find wide views across the Hohe Tauern range from the top. The grassy slopes provide gentle walking for those who do not want to reach the summit. The air is clear and cool even in summer. The contrast between the green meadows and the pale rock faces is striking. The silence at such height is noticeable after leaving the valleys below.
