Luisenkopf

The Luisenkopf is a 3,207-metre peak in the Glockner group of the Hohe Tauern National Park. It stands on the Luisen ridge, a southern outlier of the Stüdl ridge that rises from the Grossglockner. The summit lies on the Glockner crest between the Schere to the south and the Luisenscharte to the north, where the ridge falls away to the Grossglockner.

The first ascent was made on 6 September 1853 by A. Bauernfeind and A. Payr via a north–south traverse. The normal route starts at the Stüdl hut, crosses to the Schere, then follows the Luisen ridge with easy climbing to the top. In good conditions an alternative leads across the Teischnitzkees and up the loose west flank.

From the summit the Grossglockner fills the northern skyline while to the south the ridge drops to the Stüdl hut and the Teischnitz and Ködnitz valleys. To the east the Ködnitzkees glacier descends toward the Blue Heads. The stark crest and high basins give views across the heart of the national park.
