Royal Victoria

Royal Victoria station stands on the Docklands Light Railway in east London, beside the Royal Victoria Dock. The line here first opened in 1855 when the Eastern Counties Railway had to curve round the new dock. The present station opened in 1994 when the DLR extended its Beckton branch through this stretch. Trains now leave every few minutes towards Canning Town, Tower Gateway and Beckton. A flyover built in 2009 lets services switch between branches without crossing other tracks.
The station is the closest stop to the IFS Cloud Cable Car’s northern terminal. London City Hall lies a short walk away across the water. Buses 147 and 474 call at the stop, and a cycle shuttle runs to Silvertown Tunnel. The platforms sit beside Victoria Dock Road, where an engineers’ siding was added in 2009. From here the tracks rise on the 330-metre flyover to join the high-level platforms at Canning Town.
Visitors find a modern DLR station with two platforms and clear signage. The area around the dock is still being regenerated, with new buildings rising beside the water. The cable car terminal is a short walk north, offering views back over the dock and east London. The dock itself stretches south, lined with cranes and warehouses from its industrial past. From the station entrance, the City Hall building is visible across the water, its curved shape catching the light.
