Goodison Park

Goodison Park stands two miles north of Liverpool city centre in Walton. It is a football stadium built in 1892 to serve as Everton’s home ground. The ground hosted the 1910 FA Cup Final and matches during the 1966 World Cup. After Everton moved to a new stadium in 2025, Goodison Park became the home of Everton Women. The stadium has an all-seated capacity of 39,414 and occupies a site close to Stanley Park. The stadium’s history is tied to a dispute between Everton and John Houlding, the club’s chairman and majority owner of Anfield. Houlding proposed turning Everton into a limited company to buy the land, but the board rejected his plan. George Mahon, a Liberal politician on the board, argued for wider share ownership to involve more supporters. Everton left Anfield in 1892 after failing to agree on terms, and Houlding formed Liverpool Football Club to play at the vacated ground. Visitors to Goodison Park find a historic stadium with a capacity of nearly 40,000 seats. The ground retains its original purpose as a football venue, now hosting Everton Women’s matches. Its location near Stanley Park links it to the club’s early days on open pitches. The stadium’s past includes hosting major finals and international games, marking its place in football history.
