Turmhügel Langenerling
The Turmhügel Langenerling stands in the Upper Palatinate near Regensburg, 150 metres south of St Johannes Baptist parish church in Langenerling. It is a vanished motte, a type of medieval earthwork castle built on an artificial mound. The site is listed as a protected archaeological monument in the Bavarian state atlas. The motte once belonged to the ministeriales of St Emmeran, unfree knights serving the monastery. No visible ruins remain above ground today. Archaeologists recognise it as a medieval stronghold with traces of high and late medieval settlement. Visitors find a low, grassy mound surrounded by farmland. The church and village lie close by, giving a sense of the motte’s original setting. The place offers quiet walks and a glimpse of medieval fortification techniques.
