Twerton Park

Twerton Park is a football stadium in Twerton, a suburb of Bath in Somerset. It sits 2.5 kilometres from the city centre on a site that once formed part of Innox Park, opened in 1909 as a recreation ground. The ground has four stands: the Bath End, the Grandstand, the Popular Side and the Bristol End. Bath City F.C. have played there since 1932, and since 2020 it has also been home to Bristol City Women. Between 1986 and 1996 Bristol Rovers F.C. used the ground after leaving Eastville in Bristol. The stadium’s record attendance reached 18,020 in 1960 when Bath City met Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup. In 1932 the first stand cost £320 and seated a thousand, built by supporters in six weeks. A carnival with boxing, children’s games and a motor-cycle gymkhana marked the opening. By 1934 the ground drew 9,750 for a match against Charlton Athletic, and a roof was added to the Popular Side the following year. Visitors find two bars named after former players, Charlie Fleming and Paul Randall. The Grandstand still stands from the 1930s, while the Bath End gained terraces in the 1940s using rubble from bomb sites. The pitch was moved westwards to allow more banking, and dressing rooms were built under the stands. The Popular Side shows signs of wartime damage repaired after the 1941 raids. The ground retains the spirit of those early supporter-led efforts, with simple terraces and a steep slope behind the Bath End.
