Theaterhaus Stuttgart stands in the north of the city, close to Pragsattel in the Feuerbach district. It occupies the converted Rheinstahlhallen, a former steel warehouse built by Thyssen. The building dates from the 19th century and is now protected as a monument. Its red-brick halls cover twelve and a half thousand square metres. The site also includes a separate sports hall and a two-storey foyer.
Every year more than three hundred thousand visitors attend nearly a thousand events. Around one hundred and fifty of these performances are free of charge. The house presents two resident ensembles: Gauthier Dance and the Internationales Theaterhaus Schauspielensemble. Guest artists bring comedy, cabaret, literature, pop and rock music, jazz, classical and new music to the stage.
Inside the building four event halls provide almost two thousand seats. Rehearsal rooms, workshops, offices and a restaurant sit alongside the performance spaces. The foyer opens onto the wide concourse where people gather between shows. Outside, the surrounding area forms part of the Pragsattel cultural quarter.
