Spertental

The Spertental is a southern side valley of the Brixental in Tyrol, Austria. It stretches for eight kilometres and meets the Brixental near Kirchberg in Tirol at 837 metres above sea level. The Aschauer Ache stream flows through the valley, fed by springs at the foot of the Großer Rettenstein. The landscape is framed by smooth, high mountains, with the Großer Rettenstein at 2,366 metres and the Kleiner Rettenstein at 2,216 metres. Smaller peaks form a natural barrier around the valley, creating a quiet, enclosed setting. The valley’s main settlement is Aschau im Spertental, a small village of about a hundred people. The village has its own parish church dedicated to the Holy Cross of Christ, a school and a community hall. It also supports its own brass band, which adds to the local culture. Beyond Aschau the valley splits into the Oberengrund and Unterenggrund, leading toward the Pinzgau region. The Aschauer Ache continues from the valley floor through Kirchberg, Reith bei Kitzbühel and St. Johann in Tirol before joining the Kitzbühler Ache. The surrounding mountains provide gentle slopes and open meadows, ideal for walking. The contrast between the sheltered valley floor and the towering peaks creates a peaceful, rural atmosphere.
