Escheberg

The Escheberg rises 448.9 metres above sea level as the highest point in the Malsburger Wald, a forested ridge within the northern Habichtswälder Bergland. It stands in the Habichtswald Nature Park, where oak and beech woods cover the slopes. The summit lies 3.3 kilometres north of Oberelsungen and 850 metres northwest of Escheberg village, a small part of Zierenberg. The hill belongs to the Westhessisches Bergland region and the Malsburger Wald sub-unit. Forest tracks lead to the top from nearby roads, including Kreisstraße 88 and Kreisstraße 87, which cross the woodland’s western edge. Walkers can follow these paths through dense stands of beech and spruce to reach the bare summit. At the peak a modest stone marker shows the highest point, surrounded by a ring of young beeches. On clear days the view stretches across the Kassel basin to the Kaufunger Wald and the Reinhardswald. The quiet woodland paths make the Escheberg a peaceful destination for short hikes.
