Ausstellungshaus Spoerri
The exhibition house stands in Hadersdorf am Kamp, a village in Lower Austria beside the river Kamp. The building is the old Hohenfurterhaus, a protected monument whose core dates from the late 16th or early 17th century. A broad, low structure, it faces the main square with a central doorway and a side passage. Above the entrance a small oriel window projects on carved brackets under a triangular gable. Inside, a stamped coat of arms on the oriel bears the date 1767. Twice each year the house becomes a gallery where Daniel Spoerri’s works meet those of his artist friends. Recent shows have paired Spoerri with Jean Tinguely, François Morellet and André Thomkins. Earlier exhibitions explored Fluxus, Eat Art and multiples by Spoerri and Eva Aeppli. The current season runs from March to October or November, depending on the year. Visitors enter through a Biedermeier gate into a vaulted passage that leads to the main room. The ground floor still shows the original barrel vault with a rectangular plastered panel at its centre. Upstairs the small gallery spaces are lit by high windows that frame views of the village rooftops. The quiet square outside holds a relief of the Virgin of Mercy above the door, a reminder of the building’s long civic life.
