The Roman Catholic parish church of Friedersbach stands on the Kirchenberg, a small hill rising above the southern edge of the village in Zwettl district, Lower Austria. Dedicated to Saint Lawrence, it belongs to the deanery of Zwettl in the diocese of St Pölten and shares its protected status with the surrounding cemetery. An old curtain wall of roughly hewn stone still encloses the church, the Gothic charnel house and the graveyard.

The church began in the 12th century as a fortified sanctuary under the Rauheneck family and became a parish in 1159. Its medieval boundaries have scarcely changed since then, and in the 15th century it ranked among the Waldviertel’s most important parishes. The west tower dates from the early 13th century, the north aisle from about 1320, and the Gothic choir was added in 1408 after Hussite raids. Inside, the nave is covered by a net-ribbed vault, while the south aisle preserves a damaged late-16th-century wall painting of the Resurrection.

Outside, the Romanesque west tower shows twin-arch bell-openings and a pyramid roof, and the south aisle ends in a round apse. Inside, the high altar of 1928 combines neogothic carving with earlier baroque side altars. Fragments of medieval stained glass remain in four choir windows, and the sacristy door carries a shouldered arch portal. The churchyard still holds the graves of local families beneath the old linden trees.
