Ferlach-Glainach airfield

The Flugplatz Ferlach-Glainach is a private airfield in the Rosental valley beside the Drau river, 2.5 kilometres east of Ferlach’s centre in Carinthia. It sits on grass runways and is run by the local gliding club. The landscape around it is open meadows and gentle hills typical of the region. It holds licences for both gliders and light aircraft up to 5,800 kilograms. All visiting machines need prior permission from the club before landing. The single grass strip stretches 618 metres across the flat ground, making it a practical spot for short take-offs and landings. Visitors find a working airfield with hangars and a small apron. There are no grandstands or cafés, just the clubhouse where pilots organise flights. Beyond the fence, the Drau valley opens up, offering wide views of the Karawanken mountains on clear days.
