Stiegerschlössl
The Stiegerschlössl stands in Maishofen, a village in Salzburg’s Zell am See district. A three-storey building with two attic floors, its core dates from the late medieval period. The house wears a hipped roof that slopes on all four sides, and its corners are marked by plain plaster strips. A small oriel window and wrought-iron window grilles were added in 1839 by Peter and Elisabeth Neumayer. Ownership passed from the Stieger family to the Neumayers, then to a farming family called Dick. In 1977 Fridolin Engls bought the house and later ran a restaurant inside. Traces of the original Gothic stone window frames remain visible, while the large barn wing was removed in 1973 to widen the road. Today the building houses a Gasthaus. The 1839 inscription ‘18 P.E.N. 39’ above the oriel records the Neumayers’ remodelling. Fanned palmette motifs and curved stucco gables decorate the façade, giving the place a quiet, dignified air. The setting, between farmland and gentle hills, makes it an agreeable stop near Salzburg.
