The Big One
The Big One is a steel hypercoaster at Pleasure Beach Resort in Blackpool, North West England. It stands 65 metres tall and once held the world record for height. The ride was designed by Ron Toomer and built by Arrow Dynamics. It opened in 1994 as the tallest roller coaster in the world. The track stretches over 1,675 metres, making it one of the longest. Its top speed reaches 119 km/h, with thrilling drops and turns. The ride has a dramatic first drop of 62 metres at a 65-degree angle. Each train carries 30 passengers in five cars, with a capacity of 1,700 riders per hour. The trains feature the Union Jack flag. The lift hill crosses over another coaster’s track, adding to the excitement. Riders experience forces up to 3.5G during the ride. Visitors board the train in the station before a siren signals departure. The ride begins with a dip and a 180-degree turn into a tunnel. After climbing the lift hill, the train plunges down the steep drop, followed by a large banked turn. The track then weaves through airtime hills and a helix before ending with a tunnel photo finish. The entire ride lasts about three minutes.
