Cùl Beag

Cùl Beag is a mountain summit in the far north of the Scottish Highlands. It stands about fifteen kilometres north of Ullapool on the route from Lochinve. The mountain is marked by a small cairn on its top. Cùl Beag belongs to three hill lists at once: it is a Marilyn, a Corbett and a HuMP. These lists are kept and checked by several hill-walking societies and published together on a website.

The height of Cùl Beag was last measured in October 2001. The name is taken from the original Gaelic, as is usual for Scottish peaks. The same website also hosts longer lists of higher Scottish mountains such as the two-thousand-footers and the Munros.

On the way up the slopes are rough grass and heather. The view from the top looks across to the sea loch and the hills beyond Ullapool. The air is clear on calm days and the ridge walk gives extra interest to the climb.
