Church of St Peter and St Paul, Coleshill

The Church of St Peter and St Paul stands in the heart of Coleshill, Warwickshire. Built mainly in the 15th century, its oldest parts reach back to the 14th. Excavations uncovered Norman foundations beneath, hinting at an even earlier timber church on the same spot. A Norman font survives from that first stone building. Records mention a priest here as early as 1086. The present spire, added in the 1860s, replaced an earlier one from the 15th century. It is worth the journey for its Grade I listing, the highest recognition in England. The church has held this status since 1961. Its walls carry layers of history: medieval stonework, 15th-century windows, and Victorian repairs. The Norman font remains in daily use. The spire’s 1860s rebuild followed extensive renovations that replastered the interior and retiled the roof. These changes preserved the building for future generations. Inside, the church offers a quiet space of worship and reflection. The Norman font stands near the entrance, its simple design unchanged for centuries.
