Schloss Fußberg
Schloss Fußberg stands in Gauting, a village north of the Würm river in Bavaria. The present building dates from 1721 and replaces earlier medieval structures. The name recalls the 12th-century noble family of Fuß, who once held the land. An octagonal tower was recorded in 1342 but no traces remain today. The house served as a summer residence for Andechs Abbey before secularisation in the 19th century. The castle’s eccentric owner Karl Theodor Maria von Hallberg-Broich painted its doors and windows vermilion, though they have since been repainted white. In 1981 the community bought the estate and opened the English-style park to visitors. The former coach house, called the Remise, now hosts art and cultural events for up to 175 people. A Belvedere in the park was added in the 19th century. Visitors find a baroque building with white-painted windows and doors. The Remise features a large hipped roof and Art Nouveau dormers, used for theatre, concerts and exhibitions. The Salettl reopened as an Italian restaurant in 2017. The landscaped park surrounds the house and offers shaded walks along the Würm.
