Pfarrkirche hl. Jakobus der Ältere, Zeillern

The Pfarrkirche Zeillern stands in the small market town of Zeillern in Amstetten district, Lower Austria. It is a Roman Catholic parish church dedicated to St James the Elder and protected as a listed monument. The building combines a steep roof with a mix of hall and pseudo-basilica forms, giving it a distinctive medieval silhouette. The church is worth visiting for its layered history and fine craftsmanship. First recorded in 863, the present Gothic structure was shaped between 1380 and the late 15th century. A large bell was added in 1510, and the interior was later fitted with neogothic altars by Josef Kepplinger and Josef Schmalzl. The tower, sacristy and vaulting all date from the 14th and 15th centuries. Inside, the nave is divided by four sturdy pillars under a diamond-net vault. The high altar shows St James on his way to execution, flanked by statues of St Joseph and St Adalbert. The choir holds a notable protestant wall monument to Cornelius Lappitz from 1562. Outside, the west tower rises above a plain stone portal, while the sacristy and chapel preserve their late-medieval ribbed vaults.
