Meadow Lane

Meadow Lane is a football stadium in Nottingham, on the east bank of the River Trent. It has been the home of Notts County since 1910, with the club moving there after their previous ground at Trent Bridge became unsuitable. The ground lies just 270 metres from the City Ground, home of Nottingham Forest, making them the closest professional football grounds in England. The two grounds are separated by the river, and parts of Meadow Lane offer views of the Trent End at the City Ground. The stadium has hosted memorable matches, including a record attendance of 47,310 for an FA Cup tie in 1955. It has also seen Notts County Ladies play there between 2014 and 2017, and it regularly stages the Varsity Series between Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham. The ground has a history of resilience, surviving bomb damage during the Second World War and hosting Nottingham Forest when their own ground was flooded or damaged by fire. Today, Meadow Lane has four main stands: the Derek Pavis Stand, the Jimmy Sirrel Stand, the Family Stand, and the Spion Kop. The Family Stand was renamed in honour of Haydn Green, who saved the club from liquidation in 2003. Outside the stadium stands a bronze statue of Jimmy Sirrel and coach Jack Wheeler, unveiled in 2016. The pitch is a modern hybrid surface with new drainage and heating pipes installed in 2024.
