Eas Cnoc na Morrar

Eas Cnoc na Morrar stands in the western Highlands where the land drops sharply toward the coast. The wet climate keeps the rivers full, and the steep slopes force the water over ledges to form falls. Scotland has more than 150 named waterfalls, most of them in this rugged region. The name uses the Gaelic word ‘eas’, which simply means waterfall. Other parts of Scotland use words like ‘linn’ or ‘spout’, but in the Highlands ‘eas’ is the common term. Measuring falls can be tricky, because some have several drops while others have one long drop. Visitors reach the site by following paths through moorland and woodland. The river plunges over a single high drop into a deep pool below. From the far bank the full height of the fall can be seen against the surrounding hills. The sound of water fills the glen, and the spray keeps the rocks wet even in drier spells.
