Rugenbarg
The Rugenbarg is a Neolithic burial mound in Schleswig-Holstein, standing between the villages of Schürsdorf, Klingberg and Gleschendorf. It sits on a small hillock just west of the L309 road, beside a meadow above Kuhlsee lake. The mound is covered with trees and shrubs, giving it a gently rounded shape. Its diameter measures about twelve metres and it rises roughly three metres from the ground. This ancient site is protected as a cultural monument and dates back thousands of years. It belongs to a group of similar mounds found across the region, some sharing the same name. Archaeologists recognise these earthworks as important traces of early farming communities. Nearby examples include a stone cist also called Rugenbarg and another mound known as Rauher Berg. Visitors reach the site by walking a short path from the roadside. The mound itself is fenced to preserve its surface, but the surrounding meadow offers space to stand and look. From the slight rise, the view stretches over Kuhlsee lake and the flat countryside. The quiet setting lets the visitor sense the age of the place without modern distractions.
