Schloss Falkenberg Klagenfurt-Waltendorf
Schloss Falkenberg stands on the Falkenberg hill northwest of Klagenfurt in Carinthia. It began as a farm in the 16th century and became an aristocratic residence in 1686. The building is protected as a historic monument and now operates as an inn and guesthouse. The castle passed through many noble families after its enlargement. Owners included Johann David von Deutenhofen, Georg Sigmund von Hallerstein, and later the writer Bill Brem from 1938. Since 1945 it has belonged to the Gröblacher family, who run the restaurant and guesthouse today. The two-storey rectangular building sits on a plateau surrounded by meadows and woods. Its corners feature projecting turrets, two added in 1973 and two converted from older towers. A high hipped roof with clay tiles covers the whole structure, extending over the turrets and giving the castle a compact, symmetrical appearance.
