Potok

Potok is a small village in the Plzeň Region, about four kilometres east of Bezvěrov. It sits in a quiet valley surrounded by rolling farmland and forests. The settlement covers just over two square kilometres. The first written record of Potok dates from 1186. It was once an independent municipality before becoming part of Bezvěrov in 1960. The village has preserved its rural character through the centuries. In 1921 it had 88 inhabitants, all Roman Catholic. By 1930 the population had risen slightly to 91, still entirely of German nationality. The old cadastral area remains unchanged since records began. Visitors find a peaceful hamlet of stone houses and farm buildings. There are no shops or restaurants, only a few narrow lanes and a single village green. The surrounding countryside offers long walks through beech and spruce woods. At the edge of the settlement stands a small wayside cross from the 19th century.
