Pfarrkirche hl. Dreifaltigkeit, Unterloibl
The Pfarrkirche Unterloibl stands in the village of Unterloibl, part of Ferlach in Carinthia. It is a small baroque church dedicated to the Holy Trinity, built in the middle of the 17th century. The building was extended westwards by five metres in 1843. During the iron-working period in Unterloibl, the tower housed a clock. On the south wall a Roman-era altar stone for the local goddess Belestis survives, donated by a slave named Latinus. The interior features a barrel vault with five lunettes over the nave, all from 1843, and a groin vault over the square chancel. The triumphal arch bears a chronogram dated 1843. The high altar, in a late-baroque style, shows the Coronation of the Virgin in its painting and the Last Supper on the painted front. A side altar in historicist style, with a picture of the Holy Trinity, was made by Mathias Slama in 1924. Visitors find a painted canvas of Saint Joseph by Andreas Melchior from 1858 and an oil painting of Saint Ursula from the mid-19th century. The church’s furnishings and decorations reflect the tastes of the 19th century, when the building was enlarged and refitted. The Roman spolie on the exterior wall links the site to the area’s ancient past.
