Perchtoldsdorf Kreuzweg Hochberg

The Kreuzweg Hochberg stands on the Hochberg hill above the wine town of Perchtoldsdorf in Lower Austria. It is a modern pilgrimage path made of geometric granite modules created by sculptor Herbert Meusburger in 2003. The route also preserves a baroque crucifixion group from the early 18th century as its twelfth station. That group carries dates carved between 1717 and 1842 on its figures. The path is recognised as an important cultural monument and is listed in the Austrian art-historical survey Dehio. A lavishly illustrated book by Meusburger and writer Felix Mitterer documents the project alongside essays and photographs. The publication shows how contemporary art meets centuries-old devotion on the same slope. Visitors walk a quiet woodland trail that rises gently through vineyards and chestnut groves. Each granite module marks a station where the life of Christ is recalled. The final station, framed by old stone figures, offers a wide view over the Vienna basin. The contrast between the clean-lined modern cubes and the worn baroque carvings makes the place quietly memorable.
