Burgstall Erling

Burgstall Erling stands on a gentle slope above the Erlinger Bach in Niederbayern. The site is a small medieval ringwork, now reduced to earthworks and a surrounding ditch. It sits 450 metres above sea level in a wooded area called Haagholz, east of the Erling road junction. The remains form a circular platform about 25 metres across, rising 1.3 metres above the rampart and dropping 2.7 metres to the ditch bottom. The eastern side has been damaged by gravel digging, but the western slope still shows clear lines. A break in the northern rampart may once have been the entrance. Visitors walk a quiet forest path to reach the low mound and its shallow ditch. The surrounding trees and the nearby Erlinger Bach create a peaceful setting. From the site, the church of St Ägidius in Aham can be seen two kilometres to the west.
