Straßenbahnmuseum Dresden

The Dresden Tram Museum stands in the northwest of the city on the site of the Trachenberge depot. It shares the grounds with the main offices of the Dresden Transport Company. The museum occupies the same building as the Historical Motor Vehicles Association of Dresden Local Transport. The collection is run by the Dresden Tram Museum Association, founded in 1992 by fifteen people. Over thirty trams have been restored by members and are kept in working order. Special trips are organised on the city’s tram network, including runs in historic Hecht cars from the 1930s. Visitors find sixteen powered and twenty-two trailer trams on display. The oldest is a 1902 Berolina tram built in the Trachenberge workshops. The museum also holds Gotha train sets, DDR-era Tatras, former Lockwitzer Valley Railway cars and several work trams. Historical ticket cancellers, stop signs and a waiting shelter are part of the exhibits, alongside plans, photographs and a Tatra T4D driving simulator.
