Marienkapelle

The Marienkapelle in Wang is a small chapel in the village of Wang in Lower Austria. It stands in a quiet part of the countryside near Steinakirchen am Forst. The building began as a transformer station for a local sawmill and nearby homes. In 2012 it was converted into a chapel to give people a peaceful place to rest. The chapel owes its existence to Anna Kogler from Wang. She wanted to turn the empty transformer station into a place where people could ‘recharge’ their energy. After the old station was no longer needed, local people adapted it into a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The idea was to create a simple refuge in the landscape. Inside, visitors find a century-old Lourdes Madonna statue. The statue is 1.7 metres tall and once stood in Wieselburg parish church. After a fire in 1952 it was kept on farms nearby. After careful restoration it was placed in the new chapel. The room is small and calm, with the statue as its centrepiece. Outside, the chapel sits among fields and trees, offering a quiet spot to pause.
