Burg Winterspüren

Burg Winterspüren stands on a hilltop at 530 metres above sea level in the district of Konstanz. It lies two kilometres northwest of Winterspüren, now part of Stockach, and 400 metres north-northeast of Jettweiler. The site is known locally as Schlossberg and once belonged to the Edelfreien Herren von Winterspüren, nobles mentioned around 1100. No visible traces of the former castle remain today. The hill is covered with small woods called Schlosshölzle. Historians Michael Losse and Hans-Wilhelm Heine have studied the area’s medieval defences. Losse’s book describes castles and manors near the northern Bodensee, including Winterspüren. Heine’s research covers fortifications between the young Danube and the western Bodensee. Both works list the site among early medieval noble seats. Visitors walk through quiet farmland and light woodland to reach the hill. The view stretches over rolling countryside toward the Bodensee. There are no ruins or signs to see, only the gentle slope and scattered trees. The place feels remote, with only the wind and birds for company. It invites a slow stroll rather than a climb.
