Pfarrkirche hl. Margaretha, Sankt Margareten im Rosental

The parish church of St Margaret in the Rosental valley stands on rising ground at the south-west edge of the village. First mentioned in 1346, it became a parish in 1430 and was cared for by Cistercians from Viktring Abbey from 1443 until the monastery closed in 1787. The building is dedicated to Saint Margaret, whose figure appears on the high altar. The church mixes medieval and baroque features. The late-Gothic tower has round-headed sound openings and an octagonal spire. A bell cast by Peter Pfinzing in the 16th century hangs inside. In 1720 a western porch with a barrel vault was added, and the west door is a late-Gothic pointed arch with rich moulding. The porch vault dates from the 15th century, and a pointed arch opens it to the nave. Inside, the three-bay nave has a 17th-century barrel vault with lunettes. A round-arched chancel arch leads to the narrower choir, vaulted in ribbed patterns and ending in five sides. The high altar of 1754, decorated in 1768 by Anton Jaggl, shows Saint Margaret flanked by Saints Barbara and Agnes, with Saints Martin and George on the sides. The left side altar carries figures of Saints Michael, Lucy and Agatha, while the right holds a mid-18th-century Pietà beneath a cross. Baroque statues of Mary Magdalene and John the Evangelist stand near the late-Gothic font, and a late-Gothic crucifix from about 1510–1520 is kept in safe keeping.
