Pipieterkogel
The Pipieterkogel is a wooded hill rising 567 metres above sea level in the northern part of Linz, Upper Austria’s capital. It stands within the city’s boundaries and forms the highest point inside those limits. The hill belongs to a ridge whose sides drop steeply toward the Haselbach and Höllmühlbach streams. A wooden summit cross with a locked box for visitors’ entries marks the top. Local studies and modern maps agree on the name Pipieterkogel, keeping it apart from the Keglergupf 600 metres to the south and the Gründberg further beyond. The Keglergupf reaches 536 metres and the Gründberg 374 metres, so the Pipieterkogel clearly towers above both. The ridge’s steep flanks and dense tree cover give the hill a quiet, secluded feel despite its urban setting. Paths wind up through beech and spruce woods to the small clearing where the cross stands. The view from the top looks north over Linz and the surrounding farmland. On clear days the Alps appear in the distance. The contrast between city and nature makes the short climb worthwhile. The summit itself is small, just enough space for the cross and a few visitors at once.
