Jöchlspitze

The Jöchlspitze is a grassy summit rising to 2 226 metres in the Allgäuer Alps of western Austria. It stands at the southern end of a rocky ridge that runs from the Hornbachspitze and the Great Krottenkopf down towards the Lechtal valley. The mountain is covered in steep grass slopes that support a wide variety of mountain plants typical of the Allgäu region. The easiest way up is a signed route that starts at the top station of the Lechtal cable car. Walkers follow the botanical trail and reach the summit in about an hour and a half. The cable car’s valley station sits above the village of Bach, where a road ends beside the lift. On top, a broad grassy dome gives wide views across the Lechtal and the Allgäuer peaks. The ridge continues north to the Hornbachspitze, while the steep southern face drops into the valley. The botanical path below passes labelled plants, adding a gentle introduction to the mountain’s flora.
