Neuapostolische Kirche Bludenz

The Neuapostolische Kirche stands at the corner of Schmittenstraße and Schillerstraße in Bludenz, a town in Vorarlberg. It was built between 1991 and 1992 after an architectural competition, designed by Bartholomäus Moosbrugger. The church has a simple three-aisled structure under a pitched roof, with a garage below ground level. Its brick façades feature two shades of grey arranged in horizontal bands. The entrance leads to a spacious foyer with toilets on both sides and a staircase to the upper floor. Inside, the ground floor contains a small hall on the right and a classroom on the left. Upstairs, a vestibule opens into the main worship space, which is strictly symmetrical and eight metres high. The raised altar area is separated from the nave by two wall panels and lit by narrow side windows, a clerestory band and a circular window above. The roof structure is exposed, with a glazed ridge and metal tie rods for stability. Side aisles each have their own clerestory lighting. The wooden altar has a two-part base and a solid top slab. The organ sits beside it, and the chancel also includes space for the choir. The worship area is plain and functional, with the roof trusses clearly visible. The overall design avoids ornamentation, focusing instead on clarity and order. The building reflects the Neuapostolic tradition while using modern materials and methods.
