The Versöhnungskirche stands in Heidenreichstein, a small town in the Gmünd district of north-western Lower Austria. Built in 1908, it is a modest but striking Protestant church with its own parish house attached. The building sits on a quiet street near the town centre, surrounded by older houses and the occasional shop.

The church is worth visiting for its rapid construction and unusual design. Work began in May 1908 and the building was consecrated in September the same year, completed in just four months. Its architect combined a square tower topped by a lantern and pyramid roof with a nave that has buttresses and paired windows carried up into dormers. The result is a lively composition that recalls the villas of the period.

Inside, the church is simple and light. The nave is lined with plain white walls and large windows that bring in daylight. The pulpit and pews are plain wood, and the ceiling is plain plaster. The attached parish house shares the same quiet dignity, its entrance marked by the modest tower. The whole complex gives a sense of quiet purpose, standing as a reminder of the town’s long Protestant tradition.
