Solymar Therme

The Solymar Therme is a modern thermal spa in Bad Mergentheim, a town in the Regierungsbezirk Stuttgart. It grew from the old Badepark Solymar, a leisure pool with wave pool that opened in 1975. After a major rebuild between 2011 and 2014 costing over 30 million euros, it reopened on 3 October 2014. The project was led by the Solymar Therme GmbH & Co. KG, whose parent company Schauer & Co. GmbH runs several spas in Germany and Switzerland. The city of Bad Mergentheim contributed 22 million euros to the renovation. The spa is divided into four zones: a sport and family pool, a vital and brine pool, a sauna landscape and a spa area. The sport pool has six 25-metre lanes, starting blocks and a 1-metre and 3-metre diving tower. A 55-square-metre water playground, two slides and a teaching pool with full-length steps are also provided. The vital and brine pool contains six thermal-water pools—five indoors and one outdoors—plus a textile steam bath. The water, drawn from the Bad Mergentheim Paulsquelle, is kept at 34 °C to 37 °C and is rich in sodium, chloride and other minerals. The sauna landscape includes five saunas, two of them outdoors, a steam bath and a sauna bar. It has been awarded five stars by the German Sauna Association under the SaunaPremium scheme. The spa’s brine pools carry names like Lithiumbad, Magnesiumbad and Calciumbad to highlight different healing aspects of the same thermal water.
