The Sender Hoyerswerda/Zeißig stands in the northern Oberlausitz region of Saxony, on the edge of the town of Hoyerswerda in the Zeißig district. Built between 1959 and 1961 as a state project in the former East Germany, it originally served as a medium-wave transmitter for Radio DDR and Berlin Rundfunk. The site once carried programmes partly produced in Lower Sorbian by the Sorbian editorial team in Cottbus.

After German reunification the medium-wave service ended in 1993, and the original 105-metre steel lattice mast was demolished in 1997. A new 176-metre guyed steel framework mast replaced it, designed to carry FM radio and later mobile-phone antennas. A second, smaller mast of 67 metres now supports mobile-phone aerials on the same site.

Visitors see two tall masts rising from a fenced compound surrounded by flat Lausitz countryside. The taller mast carries FM radio aerials broadcasting Sorbian and German programmes for MDR Sachsen. The shorter mast supports mobile-phone antennas. The open area around the site offers wide views across the northern Oberlausitz landscape.
