Kulturbühne Ambach

The Kulturbühne AMBACH stands in Götzis, a market town in Vorarlberg, where the Emmebach stream runs past its southern edge. The complex combines a community hall, cultural centre, theatre and restaurant under one roof. It has grown from an 1890s cinema into a modern venue that hosts exhibitions, concerts, theatre and lectures every year. The building’s history reflects local decisions: in 1998 a vote confirmed plans by architect Hubert Bischoff to expand the site. Work finished in 2000 with a new Great Hall and a renovated 1950s Vereinshaus. Today the complex shelters the West Austrian Musical Company, the Music Theatre Vorarlberg and the town’s music school. Visitors enter a foyer with space for 150 seats and move on to four halls. The Great Hall seats 600, while the Vereinshaus holds 340 in its former cinema space. A lecture room takes up to 70 people, and the foyer doubles as an exhibition area. Outside, the glass-and-timber façade carries the name AMBACH in bold letters, a piece of public art by Karlheinz Ströhle. Inside, a sculpture by Hubert Lampert translates binary code into a wooden relief.
