Mödlinger Friedhof - Israelitischer Teil

The Jewish cemetery in Mödling stands in the town of Mödling in Lower Austria, separated from the main cemetery by a gated fence along the Guntramsdorfer Straße. It covers about 3,200 square metres and is cared for by the local council. The first burial took place in 1876, and by 1938 the site held 373 graves. The cemetery was restored in 1995 by the association Schalom after decades of neglect. Before the Second World War it served the Jewish community of Mödling, and its rows of headstones still mark the resting places of those buried there. After 1938 no further burials were made in this section. Visitors find a quiet, orderly burial ground with mature trees and gravel paths between the graves. The headstones vary in style, some upright and others flat, and carry Hebrew inscriptions. The separation from the main cemetery is clearly visible, yet the site remains part of the wider municipal burial ground.
