Hofspielhaus

The Hofspielhaus is a private theatre in Munich. It sits in the city’s lively cultural scene. Actress and singer Christiane Brammer opened it in October 2015. Since 2019 the house has operated as a non-profit limited company. Its programme mixes new plays with fresh takes on classics. The building also hosts readings, slams and special events. The theatre is worth the trip for its bold choices and local awards. Its play Rasputin by Moses Wolff premiered in November 2016. The comedy King Kong by Sascha Fersch arrived in September 2022. Shakespeares sämtliche Werke (leicht gekürzt) opened in June 2022. The unique bairisch dialect slam Wer ko der ko won Munich’s Volkskultur Innovation Prize in 2021. Inside, the stage is small and the seats are close. The programme changes often, so visitors see something different each time. Regular performers include Götz Otto, Veronika von Quast and Michaela May. The house also awards the Monica-Bleibtreu-Preis for comedy. The atmosphere is lively, with a mix of laughter and sharp observation.
