Bundesfohlenhof

The Bundesfohlenhof was a stud farm north of Perwarth in the municipality of Randegg in Lower Austria. Its buildings are protected as a listed monument. The farm specialised in raising colt foals, taking them in at six months old and rearing them until they were ready for stud duties at around three years. The 120-hectare estate prepared young stallions for service across the federal states. Some two-year-olds were sent on to the federal stallion depot in Stadl bei Lambach. Operations ended in late 1962, after which the federal stud at Piber took over the work. Today the former stables and courtyards remain, standing among meadows and wooded slopes. Visitors can walk past the historic brick buildings and imagine the daily routines of foal rearing. The quiet countryside setting still carries the imprint of the farm’s purpose.
