Anton-Bruckner-Museum

The Anton Bruckner Museum stands in Ansfelden, a town near Linz in Upper Austria. It occupies the house where the composer Anton Bruckner was born in 1824. The building once served as a school and teachers’ residence, linked to Bruckner’s family since 1777. His father and grandfather taught there before him. The museum preserves the simple apartment where Bruckner first drew breath. The museum traces Bruckner’s journey from choirboy in St Florian to court organist in Vienna. It shows how he became one of the 19th century’s most respected symphonists. Exhibits include the baroque console from the organ he played at St Florian. Visitors see instruments made in Linz during his lifetime and a model of Ansfelden as it looked in 1820. The building itself became a memorial site in 1972 after years as a schoolhouse. Inside, several rooms recreate the composer’s world and the local community of his time. Original items and period pieces bring his story to life. The organ console and musical instruments stand alongside documents and images. The museum also recalls Bruckner’s final resting place in the crypt of St Florian Monastery.
