Muna-Museum Grebenhain

The Muna-Museum Grebenhain stands in Bermuthshain, a village in the Grebenhain municipality of the Gießen district. It occupies the former village school, built between 1829 and 1830. The building was restored between 2008 and 2011 during a village renewal project. From July 1943 to March 1945 it housed an Ostarbeiterlager for about 110 women forced to work in the nearby munitions depot. The museum opened on 8 May 2011 and is now run by a local support association founded in 2013.
The museum presents the history of the Hartmannshain air-munitions depot from 1936 to 1945. Two rooms display photographs, films, original artefacts and a scale model. Exhibits include maps and aerial photographs, one charting every Wehrmacht munitions depot. A separate multi-purpose room hosts temporary exhibitions and is otherwise used as a church hall by the local congregation.
An outdoor branch of the museum opened on 8 May 2013 in a former NATO munitions bunker at Grebenhain supply depot. It shows larger objects that cannot fit in the main building. Guided tours of the original depot site start from this bunker and can be arranged for groups on request.
