Ortskapelle Fluttendorf
The Ortskapelle Fluttendorf is a small, protected Roman Catholic chapel in the village of Fluttendorf, part of the Mooskirchen municipality in western Styria. It stands at the junction of Landesstraßen L340 and L667, directly opposite the house numbered Fluttendorf 21. The building dates from the early 19th century and is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew. The chapel’s construction began in 1817 but was delayed by disputes among villagers. It was finally completed with the help of local priest Joseph Sattler, who secured a licence for Mass on Saint Bartholomew’s Day and during the octave. A yearly procession from Mooskirchen’s parish church still arrives on Ascension Wednesday. Inside, a 1861 Stations of the Cross and a fresco by Josefa Hofer remain visible. A 1918 bell from Böhler and a painted image of Saint Mark by Josef Guggi add to its modest heritage. Visitors find a simple chapel with whitewashed walls and a small bell tower. The interior holds the Stations of the Cross, a painted Mark image, and the 1805 processional cross used at Corpus Christi and Saint Vitus’s Day. Outside, a war memorial plaque records the names of local fallen soldiers. The quiet village setting and modest architecture offer a glimpse of rural Styrian devotion.
