Pfarrkirche hl. Dreifaltigkeit, Hundsheim
The Catholic parish church of the Holy Trinity stands at the southern edge of the village green in Hundsheim, a small community in Lower Austria near the Slovak border. Built in the 14th century and repeatedly altered, it preserves a medieval core beneath its later baroque and classical layers. The church has been protected as a listed monument since the 20th century. The building tells a story of survival and change. Destroyed during the Turkish siege of 1683, it was rebuilt and raised to parish rank in 1792. The present tower dates from 1779, while the interior vaulting and furnishings reflect 18th-century tastes. The simple exterior hides a rich sequence of Gothic and baroque details. Inside, a three-bay nave rises under ribbed vaults supported by sturdy pilasters. The west gallery rests on Tuscan columns, its marbled parapet painted around 1779. The low Gothic choir retains its original early-Gothic sedilia and sacrament niche, while the high altar and pulpit date from the late 18th century. Outside, the former school of 1785 now serves as the village mortuary, its hipped roof and segment-arched door completing the ensemble.
