Schloss Ferlach

Schloss Ferlach stands on the south-west edge of Ferlach’s town centre in Carinthia. Built in the 16th century as a simple hall-storey house, it was later enlarged around 1780 into a late-baroque manor. The protected building has two and a half storeys and has housed a museum since 1998. The late-baroque façade is dominated by a strong gable above a two-bay central projection. Narrow cornices divide the walls horizontally, and the windows carry delicate stucco decoration. Large oval windows flank the main door. A glass link was added in 1997 to connect the main block with the former administration building next door. Inside, the Büchsenmachermuseum moved from the town hall in 1998. Since 2001 the collection has grown with the Mythos Jagd – Sammlung Horten. The castle library, a café, offices and event rooms occupy other parts of the building. The adjoining park hosts temporary art projects.
