Kilworth House

Kilworth House stands in the Leicestershire countryside west of North Kilworth. Built in the late 19th century as a family home, it is a Grade II listed Italianate country house. John Entwisle, who became High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1888, commissioned the design from Mr A E Purdie. Construction finished in 1891, and the house remained in the Entwisle family until 1945. After passing to his second wife Florence, it later belonged to the Snowden family in the 1960s. The house is worth visiting for its architectural importance and its links to notable figures. John Entwisle’s story shows how a wealthy businessman rose to become High Sheriff. The house also became home to Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath in the late 1970s while he dated one of the Snowden daughters. The Snowdens later sold the house in 1999, and new owners restored and redeveloped it into a four-star country house hotel. Visitors find a grand Italianate building with elegant interiors and landscaped grounds. The hotel offers comfortable rooms in a historic setting surrounded by Leicestershire’s rolling countryside. The restoration preserved original features while adapting the house for modern hospitality. Guests can walk through the restored rooms and enjoy views over the estate.
