Hinterer Tajakopf

The Hinterer Tajakopf is a mountain rising to 2,408 metres in the Mieming Range of the Austrian Alps. It stands west of the Coburger Hut, a mountain refuge at 1,917 metres. Two main routes lead to the top: one follows the south arête from the Hinteres Tajatörl, the other uses the Coburger Klettersteig from the Vorderen Tajatörl. The Vorderer Tajakopf, 2,450 metres high, lies to the north and shares the same ridge system. Below the summit, at about 2,300 metres, the remains of an old lead and zinc mine mark the area’s industrial past. The mountain’s routes attract climbers and hikers seeking varied challenges. The Coburger Klettersteig is a protected climbing path that mixes scrambling with fixed cables and ladders. Those who combine both peaks follow a classic traverse across the ridge. The mine’s remnants show how miners once worked these slopes before the 20th century. On the summit itself, a small wooden cross stands beside a larger metal cross on a rocky ridge. At the top, a short protected passage leads to the main summit cross and its summit register. The Coburger Hut offers a base for those who want to spend time in the mountains. Views stretch across the Inn Valley and the surrounding ranges. The contrast between the wild, rocky summit and the abandoned mine below adds to the mountain’s character.
