The abandoned Schloss Eckendorf stands in the village of Eckendorf, a district of Nabburg in the Upper Palatinate. It was once a small seat of a local nobleman with low jurisdiction over its few inhabitants. The site is now recognised as an archaeological monument from the early modern period. The place first appears in records in the 16th century as a freehold estate. A tax survey of 1630 counted one shepherd and six householders living there. The local name ‘Schlossbauer’ recalls the vanished manor house that once dominated the hamlet. Today the former castle site is covered by a working farm. No walls or foundations remain above ground, yet the designation keeps the memory of its past. Visitors see only the farm buildings and the quiet lanes of Eckendorf.
