A27 road

The A27 is a major route running along the south coast of England. It begins at Whiteparish in Wiltshire where it meets the A36, then travels through Hampshire and West Sussex before ending at Pevensey in East Sussex. Much of the road runs parallel to the coast, passing through towns such as Fareham, Chichester, Worthing and Brighton. The road is known for frequent congestion and delays, making it one of the most unreliable trunk roads in the country. Sections near Chichester, Arundel and Worthing are particularly problematic, with high collision rates and long delays during peak times. Despite repeated proposals for bypasses and improvements, many schemes have been cancelled or deferred due to lack of local support or environmental concerns. The A27 varies between single and dual carriageway, with some sections built to motorway standards. It passes close to landmarks such as the South Downs National Park and connects key coastal towns. The route also includes junctions with historic roads and Roman alignments, reflecting its long-standing importance in southern England.
