Drama Studio, University of Sheffield

The Drama Studio is a small theatre in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. It sits inside the old Glossop Road Baptist Church, built in 1970 from the converted building. The space seats 177 people and keeps many of the church’s original features. Three separate rehearsal rooms sit beside the main hall. The university runs the theatre through its Performance Venues department. It is used all year by student groups, local amateur companies and touring artists. The Enable US festival happens here every two years. Enable US gives new performing arts companies a chance to show their work in Sheffield. The stage can change shape to fit different shows, with a main floor of eight by seven metres. A full lighting and sound system supports professional shows. Visitors find a flexible theatre with professional equipment. The building still shows traces of its church past in arches and windows. Performances range from student plays to music gigs and debates. The Enable US festival brings experimental pieces to the stage twice a year. The rehearsal rooms nearby host smaller workshops and meetings.
